Call for Abstracts

The 2016 International Radiation Symposium of the International Radiation Commission (IAMAS, IUGG) invited submissions of abstracts for presentation at the symposium. Following the tradition of previous IRS meetings, the symposium provided a forum for the best and latest research in radiative processes relevant to the atmosphere and ocean.

Submission deadline: 11:59pm (NZT), Saturday 10 October 2015

Abstracts were approximately half a page in length. Presentations could be delivered in either oral or poster format, and submissions were linked to one of the thematic streams below.

Thematic Sessions

  1. Topical Union Session — convened by Werner Schmutz and colleagues.
  2. Radiative Transfer Theory and Modeling
  3. Particle Radiative Properties
  4. General Remote Sensing
  5. Understanding Climate using Satellite Data
  6. Surface Measurements and Field Experiments
  7. Radiation Budget and Forcing

Abstract reviews were completed by a panel in mid-November 2015. Accepted presenters were notified and included in the final programme, which featured approximately 300 oral presentations and poster sessions across the week.

The abstract submission process for the 2016 International Radiation Symposium was designed to encourage broad participation from the atmospheric and oceanic radiation research community. Authors were invited to submit concise abstracts, approximately half a page in length, which were then linked to one of the symposium's thematic streams covering the latest advances in radiative transfer, remote sensing, and climate-related radiation studies. The organisers encouraged both established researchers and emerging scientists to contribute, recognising that a vibrant mix of perspectives strengthens the scientific programme. With the submission window closing in October 2015, prospective presenters had ample time to prepare their work, and the anticipation of presenting in Auckland added to the enthusiasm surrounding the event.
