Arrival and Visa Advice

The 2016 International Radiation Symposium was held at The University of Auckland, New Zealand. International delegates travelling to Auckland were advised to plan their arrival and visa arrangements well in advance.

Getting to Auckland

Auckland International Airport is located approximately 40 minutes from the city centre. Several transport options were available for the journey into the city:

  • Airbus Express — a dedicated airport bus service operating regularly between the airport and central Auckland. The fare was NZ$16 one way.
  • Taxi — taxi ranks were located directly outside both the international and domestic terminals.
  • Shuttle — shared shuttle services also operated from ranks at the terminals, offering a lower-cost alternative to taxis.

Visa Requirements

Visitors to New Zealand were encouraged to check visa requirements for their country of citizenship. Immigration New Zealand provided comprehensive information on visitor visas, including eligibility criteria and application procedures. Delegates requiring an invitation letter for visa purposes could contact the symposium organisers.

It was recommended that visa applications be submitted as early as possible, as processing times varied by country.

Additional Travel Information

Once in Auckland, the symposium venue at the Owen G Glenn building (12 Grafton Road) was within walking distance of several hotels and the city centre. Public transport, including buses and trains, provided convenient access to the university campus and surrounding areas.
